Whenever a child is saving his childhood and start working in miscellany, it is considered child labour. We already know that child labour is outrightly illegal. Many governments and NGOs are working on the removal of child labour, in dangerous industries but it has been noticed despite all kinds of rhetoric, it is still a part of society.
Remarkable efforts should be made in eradicating this evil because more than 60 million Indian children are at work. Indian Constitution ensures necessary primary education the children below 14. You must be thinking why I am raising this issue of child labour because I used to think that it is almost eradicated.
But Yesterday one of my friends came to see me and she told me about an incident which was occurred with her the previous day. she was going to her office and noticed the boys of 10 or11 years old, we're sitting on the pavement, it seemed they were waiting for proper transport that could take them to their destination.
when she went closer, both the boys realized her presence and stopped the conversation, she at once recognized both of them because a few days back, in front of her house, one of them was ambling on the thin rope, which was tied on the top of two long bamboos, and It was very high. The boy was balancing himself smoothly and confidently, It was very risky, a little misstep could dash him directly to the ground.
When the show got over, he came down with a broad smile 😊 on his face, and the other boy started collecting money from the spectators. My friend was looking at them from the window of her house,
she wanted to know about the circumstances that compelled them to perform this kind of acrobatics, but that day she didn't get the chance to ask anything. when suddenly she saw them again, she went closer and asked the most awaited question, if he hadn't got scared while he was performing at that extreme height.
He promptly answered “the fear of death is lesser than dying of hunger” This kind of response was unexpected but enough to make her sad 😩 . She got curious to know more about their family. He told her that they were two brothers, and lost their parents a few years ago when his younger brother was born.
Now nobody was there to make things better for them therefore, they had to work hard to make both ends meet. She further asked “what you people are doing at present” It was told that they were working in a glass factory. It was very surprising to hear all this because rigid rules are there to deal with child labour
Dangerous occupations are strictly banned for children so my friend was very confused that how they could have been allowed to work in the glass factory. We know working in harmful industries is prone to depleting diseases that make them incapacitated.
The children who work in matchstick, and glass factories can easily be victims of severe diseases like bronchial and T.B. sometimes even they can lose their eyesight.
Their mental and physical health are also get affected very badly due to more hours of work. It can be understood, that if the children once get trapped they will feel vulnerable to come out of this terrible phase of poverty. So my friend decided to talk to the glass factory owner who had employed those two boys. When she met the owner.
The owner told her that he was not interested at all, in their hiring, but the boys refused to take help in form of money without working, they wanted to earn money from their work, rather than making it free. One day my friend and I decided to meet those two children, we knew where they lived it was near the station road we found them under the lamppost without much hassle.
When we reached near them this time they recognized my friend. “Are you reading?” We asked after noticing a book in their hands. They told me that after two weeks they had their exams. We were eager to know how they were managing studies and working simultaneously.
They replied “there is nothing in the world that can not be managed” we were not expecting this kind of reasoning from the children, while they belonged to the weaker section of society, it was a little bit surprising.
They further asked “what do you think? the dreams and aspirations should be the component of children of higher class, if anybody tries to make us realize our limitations, we never get demoralized our level of motivation can not be evaluated because we are not under the roof we are under the sky, which has no limit.” This spontaneity of their thought process amazed us completely.
We had left nothing to say. We had brought chocolates and fruits for them but they refused to take them saying they did not like to take alms. We tried to convince them that was not a donation it was just a token of love for the little ones.
The first time both the brothers looked at each other and in one voice they said “whether you people would like to teach us” because they needed assistance in a few subjects. We got overwhelmed by this response because it was a clear indication of their sincerity and wisdom for better prospects.
When we were getting back we thought “what can we teach them when the Time as the biggest teacher had already taught them so much, and the most important thing was"how to lead a life” We had made up our mind to support them, exactly, in the same way, they wanted
Now we are sure that one day they will achieve something big. Tomorrow many more will get inspired by their heroic and wonderful journey
